Citywide Mental Health Diversion (MHD)

Beginning in 2019, Citywide created a small clinical team in collaboration with the San Francisco Department of Public Health (SFDPH), Jail Behavioral Health Services and the MHD court program through a grant from the California Department of State Hospitals. The goal of the program is to provide new pathways to dismissal of charges for felony-charged individuals with serious mental illness who are at risk of being found Incompetent to Stand Trial (IST), while reducing and eliminating criminal justice recidivism and supporting their long-term stability, wellness, and safety. The team providing intensive case management services consists of a Licensed Clinical Supervisor, a master’s level Clinical Case Manager, a Peer Specialist, and a prescribing Nurse Practitioner.
