Citywide Psychiatric Emergency Services (PES) Caseload

In 1989, Citywide in collaboration with ZSFG-Psychiatric Emergency Services (PES) created a partnership to provide continuous mental health services to consumers whose history of violent behavior precluded treatment in community-based clinics. Services are based on the hospital grounds at PES. Comprehensive mental health services provided include: thorough referral screening and risk assessment; individual therapy; case management and service coordination; medication management; crisis intervention; and outreach when safe to do so. This innovation increased the safety of the community by providing clinical services to those who would otherwise be excluded from treatment.

Intakes:  Marta Gilbert – Prior ICM authorization is required and referred clients must have a serious mental illness with a risk of violence requiring the PES setting for safety.

Discharges:  Participants are served on the PES caseload until they can be safely seen in an outpatient setting.  Typically, participants stepped down to another ICM clinic.
